Thalians Honor Smokey Robinson Benefiting UCLA Operation Mend

Ruta Lee invites you to be a supporter of The Thalians Tribute Concert honoring Smokey Robinson at House of Blues Sunset Strip benefiting mental health and wellness services provided to America’s wounded warriors and their families served by UCLA Operation Mend.

After more than half a century of charity, The Thalians are proud to dedicate this 2014 Concert Event on Saturday, April 26th to helping UCLA heal the wounds of war, not only in body, but mind and spirit as well. Our amazing evening includes gourmet food, fun, and entertainment with Musical Greats performing Smokey Robinson’s biggest hits for the man himself as he is presented with this year’s “Mr. Wonderful” Award.

The Thalians select each honoree for their contributions to the entertainment industry and personal dedication to philanthropic causes. The Mr./Ms. Wonderful award was personally created and designed by Walt Disney and has become a most sought after celebrity award. Smokey Robinson joins the illustrious list of Thalians honorees including: Frank Sinatra, Shirley MacLaine, Gene Kelly, Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, Sammy Davis Jr., Debbie Reynolds, Bob Hope, Whoopi Goldberg, Clint Eastwood, Sally Field, Mickey Rooney and Hugh M. Hefner.

Bob Dylan called Smokey Robinson "America's greatest living poet." As a singer and songwriter, Smokey Robinson is peerless and prolific. Some of his countless hits include: “Tears of a Clown,” “My Girl,” "My Guy,” “I Second That Emotion,” "Tracks of My Tears,” (with Stevie Wonder) “The Way You Do The Things You Do,” “Shop Around,” “Get Ready,” and “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me.” Smokey Robinson made major contributions to the success of Motown, a fact acknowledged by label founder Berry Gordy Jr., when he named him Corporate Vice President of the company. He has received numerous awards including the Grammy Living Legend Award, Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts Award from the President of the United States. He has also been inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.

In an effort to give where it is needed most, The Thalians’ focus is now on the well-being of America’s wounded heroes.
